Rare 19th-Century Qur’an Manuscript Showcased in Makkah

MAKKAH:  A rare 19th-century Qur’an manuscript has been put on display in the Holy Qur’an Museum in the Hira Cultural District of Makkah in Saudi Arabia, offering scholars, historians, and visitors a unique glimpse into the rich heritage of Islamic calligraphy and manuscript art.

The manuscript exemplifies the deep reverence Muslims have historically shown for the Holy Qur’an, as well as their dedication to artistic and decorative excellence, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

It features intricate gilding, elaborate floral motifs, and detailed embellishments throughout its opening, middle, and concluding sections, reflecting the exceptional craftsmanship of Islamic calligraphy and manuscript art.

Carefully restored over time, the manuscript’s delicate artistic features have been preserved for future generations, SPA reported.

Housed at the King Abdulaziz Library, the manuscript stands as a testament to the institution’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting Islamic cultural and literary heritage.
