Quake of Magnitude 4.5 Hits Nepal: Report

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Seismological Centre said that an earthquake of magnitude 4.5 struck the country on Thursday.  With an epicenter at Chitlang of Makwanpur district Nepal, the earthquake was recorded at about 1:20 am, however, no damages were reported.

Nepal is still making efforts to overcome the loss of property and lives that occurred due to a 6.4 magnitude quake that jolted the country on November 3. The strong tremor left about 157 dead and scores wounded in Nepal.

After the earthquake, security forces have been dispatched to help rescue operations in the rough districts of West Rukum and Jajarkot. As per media reports, strong tremors were also felt far away in the Nepalese capital city. BBC reported that around 375 people had also been wounded in the earthquake. Nepal is located along the Himalayas, where there is a lot of seismic movement.

In 2015, Nepal suffered two shocking earthquakes in which around 9,000 people were killed and over 22,309 wounded. The first, on 25 April 2015, was a 7.8-magnitude earthquake and the second one was 7.3 -magnitude earthquake in May 2015.

The earthquakes destroyed over 800,000 homes mainly in the western and central districts, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said.

Official buildings, UNESCO world heritage sites were destroyed with many villages north of Kathmandu flattened during the quakes.
