Qatar PM Discusses Gaza Situation with Lebanese, Iranian Leaders

LONDON: Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim has held telephonic conversation with Lebanese and Iranian counterparts to discuss latest situation in war-hit Gaza, state media reported on Friday.

The state-run QNA news agency reported that the Qatari leader in phone call with Prime Minister of the Caretaker Government of Lebanon Najib Mikati, discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories.

Sheikh Mohammed warned that the widening scope of violence and the circle of conflict in the region would have grave consequences if expanded, particularly in Lebanon and neighboring states.

He stressed the urgent need for the global community to take immediate action to stop Israeli violations of international law.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Mohammed also held a phone call with Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

He stressed the need to work on an immediate ceasefire and protect civilians in Gaza.

He also expressed his condolences for the victims of the recent explosions in Iran’s Kerman province and prayed for the speedy recovery of injured.

The health ministry in Gaza on Friday said that 22,600 people have been killed in the besieged territory since the war between Hamas and Israel erupted on October 7.

Earlier, Qatar helped broker weeklong ceasefire of the Gaza war in November. During the pause in fighting 106 Israeli captives and 240 Palestinian prisoners were freed.
