LAHORE: The province of Punjab is currently facing a troubling upsurge in dengue cases, with a notable increase of 131 new cases reported on Friday alone. The situation depicted by the Health Department is alarming, as there have been 4,184 confirmed dengue cases reported across 36 districts in Punjab this year.
Lahore has reported the highest number of dengue cases, reaching 1,696, followed by Rawalpindi with 1,070, Multan with 515, Faisalabad with 199, and Gujranwala with 169 cases.
The situation has worsened further, with Lahore registering an additional 55 new dengue cases, Rawalpindi with 33, Multan with 12, Faisalabad with 9, Gujranwala with 6, and Sheikhupura registered three new cases in the past 24 hours.
Khanewal and Sialkoteach reported two new cases. At the same time, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sargodha, Gujrat, Bahawalnagar, Jhang, Khoshab, Jehlum, and Pakpatan each confirmed one new dengue case during the same time.
At present, there are 139 dengue patients undergoing treatment in various hospitals across Punjab, with 71 of them located in hospitals within the Lahore district. Ali Jaan Khan, the Secretary of Health Punjab, has appealed to the public to maintain clean and dry surroundings as a preventive measure against dengue fever.
He emphasized the importance of cooperating with the health department teams working tirelessly to combat this outbreak.
