KARACHI: Islamabad United suffered a dramatic batting implosion at the National Stadium on Thursday, crawling to a modest 137 runs after being asked to bat first by RawalPindiz in PSL 11 clash.

The innings break could hardly have arrived at a better time for the RawalPindiz bowlers, who seized complete control following a promising start from the United top order.

Conway fights alone as wickets tumble

Devon Conway top-scored with a measured 40 off 33 balls (3 fours, 2 sixes), but his departure at 79 for 4 triggered a collapse that saw Islamabad United lose their last seven wickets for just 58 runs.

RawalPindiz’s bowling attack shared the spoils brilliantly. Mohammad Amir and Saad Masood claimed two wickets apiece, while Dian Forrester struck twice in the final over,  including the key wicket of Chris Green, whose late 29 off 16 had briefly threatened respectability.

The collapse was swift and brutal. From 79 for 3, United slipped to 99 for 7 before Green’s counter-attack delayed the inevitable. But when Green was run out at 137, Hasnain and Gleeson fell to successive deliveries, leaving Imad Wasim stranded on 8 not out.

Asif Afridi (1 for 17 off 4) and Naseem Shah (1 for 9 off 2) kept the squeeze on during the middle overs, ensuring RawalPindiz will chase a well-below-par total with the crowd firmly behind them.

United captain Shadab Khan lasted just two balls for his 1, while Haider Ali’s labored 6 off 13 summed up a disjointed innings.

RawalPindiz need 138 to win at 6.90 per over.
