LAHORE: Hyderabad Kingsmen stormed into Eliminator 2 of PSL 11 on Wednesday, cruising to an eight-wicket win over Multan Sultans after a devastating batting display led by Usman Khan and Maaz Sadaqat at Gaddafi Stadium.

The win brought an end to Multan’s campaign and propelled the debutants into Eliminator 2, where they will face three-time champions Islamabad United on Friday at the same venue for a chance to qualify for the final.
Clinical chase
Chasing 160 runs for victory, the Kingsmen reached the target with just two wickets down and 28 balls to spare, thanks to a match-defining second-wicket partnership between Usman Khan and Maaz Sadaqat.
Hyderabad’s chase started poorly as captain Marnus Labuschagne fell for 11 in the second over with only 18 runs on the board. But Usman joined Sadaqat, and the pair took control, stitching together a brilliant 92-run stand for the second wicket.

Usman was the aggressor of the partnership. He eventually fell to Steve Smith in the 11th over after a breathtaking 64 off just 35 balls, featuring eight fours and three sixes.
Sadaqat then teamed up with Saim Ayub, and the duo calmly guided the Kingsmen home in the 16th over. Sadaqat remained unbeaten on 64 off 33 deliveries, hitting four fours and four sixes, while Saim contributed a run-a-ball 15 not out. For Multan, only Ismail and Smith managed to pick up a wicket each.

Sultans’ struggle with the bat
Earlier, put in to bat first, the Sultans managed 159 for 9 in their 20 overs. They stumbled early as Mohammad Ali removed Steve Smith (13) in the third over. Akif Javed then dismissed Sahibzada Farhan (15), and Hunain Shah trapped Josh Philippe (6) lbw, leaving Multan reeling at 36 for 3 inside the powerplay.
Captain Ashton Turner (9) and Shan Masood tried to rebuild but added just 15 runs before Turner fell to Saim Ayub. Glenn Maxwell struck immediately after, removing Arafat Minhas (1) on the first ball of the eighth over to reduce the Sultans to 52 for 5.
Masood held firm amid the collapse and found some support from Mohammad Nawaz (19 off 18), sharing a 33-run partnership. However, wickets continued to fall as Ali bowled Mohammad Imran Randhawa (2) and Hunain dismissed Peter Siddle (9). Masood fought on single-handedly, bringing up his 10th PSL half-century in the 18th over. He remained unbeaten on 69 off 46 balls, with four fours and four sixes.
For the Kingsmen, the pace trio of Hunain Shah, Mohammad Ali, and Akif Javed took two wickets each, while spinners Glenn Maxwell and Saim Ayub claimed one apiece.
