Protests in Peshawar Lead to Four Deaths and Multiple Injuries

PESHAWAR: Four individuals have lost their lives, and 27 others have been injured during violent protests in Peshawar, according to a spokesperson for Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) on Wednesday.

LRH spokesperson Mohammad Asim stated that emergency medical assistance is being provided to the injured individuals at the hospital, and most of them are now out of danger. The emergency department at LRH remains on high alert, he added.

During the current protests in the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), a group of miscreants entered the building of Radio Pakistan Peshawar and set fire to vehicles parked on the premises. Radio station staff members were present in the building during the incident. The miscreants also set fire to the Radio Pakistan building in Peshawar.

In addition, supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) staged protests outside Qilla Bala Hisar.

Peshawar police arrest 30 in connection with protests

The Peshawar Police released a statement stating that 30 individuals have been arrested in connection with the violent protests.

Cases have been registered against them for setting properties, vehicles, and ambulances on fire. The police are in the process of identifying the rioters and arsonists using CCTV footage and other sources.

Mardan Police reported the arrest of 32 individuals involved in rioting during a protest against the arrest of Imran Khan.

A case has been lodged against former minister Atif Khan and other PTI leaders, according to the police.

Due to the tense situation, authorities have decided to close Khushal Khan University in Karak and the University of Swabi. Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan has also been closed, and online classes will be conducted starting from tomorrow, as announced by the university administration.
