Polling Ends, Vote Count Underway in Sindh LG Elections

KARACHI: The vote count is underway after polling ended for the second phase of local government elections in the Sindh province of Pakistan today (Sunday).

The polling process continued till 5:00 pm smoothly in Karachi and Hyderabad on Sunday, with the voter turnout appearing less than moderate owing to a boycott by Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).

The polling took place in nine districts of the Hyderabad division and seven districts of Karachi. Strict security measures have been taken to ensure transparent and fair elections in both divisions of Sindh province.

Security arrangements for Sindh LG Polls

Nearly 8,000 polling stations have been declared ‘highly sensitive’ or ‘sensitive’ in 16 districts of Hyderabad and Karachi.

In Karachi, at least 3,415 polling stations have been declared as sensitive, and 1,496 polling stations were declared highly sensitive, and 79 polling stations were declared as normal.

Out of the total 2,674 polling stations in Hyde­rabad division, 1,270 were declared sensitive, 779 were declared highly sensitive, and 625 were normal.

In Thatta and Sujawal, all 1,008 polling stations have been declared sensitive and 185 highly sensitive.
