LIMA: Political crisis deepened in Peru as a police officer died torched in his vehicle on Tuesday after 17 people were killed in protest demonstrations on Monday, all prompted by the dismissal of President Pedro Castillo last month.
The interior ministry said that the killed officer’s car came under attack early Tuesday morning by “unknown men” in Juliaca, with another official suffering many head injuries.

Jorge Angulo, a senior official, told the media that they were seeking more information into the horrible attack.
He said an autopsy is being conducted to fully identify the circumstances in which the officer was wounded, and practically burned to death.

A 3-day mourning kicked off in several parts of southern Peru on Tuesday, after 17 persons were killed on Monday in the most violent day of protests since Castillo was ousted by lawmakers following, he sought to dissolve the parliament.
As many as 40 people have been killed in the political unrest so far, as supporters of the former President insist, Castillo was the victim of a coup and demand the Government to release him from jail.
