ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasted continued heavy rainfall across Punjab, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), and northeastern Balochistan.

Experts warned of potential flash floods in AJK, northeastern Balochistan, and the hilly streams of Dera Ghazi Khan within the next day or two. Urban flooding was also anticipated in the Pothohar region of upper Punjab.

Wind and thunderstorms were expected in several regions including Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Narowal, Sialkot, Lahore, Layyah, Bhakkar, Taunsa, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Sahiwal, Okara, Khanewal, Bahawalnagar, and Bahawalpur. The PMD also warned of possible landslides in Murree, Galyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, potentially disrupting traffic.

Meanwhile, Balochistan would experience hot and humid weather in most districts, while areas like Zhob, Barkhan, Kohlu, Sherani, Musakhel, Loralai, Khuzdar, Awaran, and Lasbela could expect heavy rain with strong winds and thunderstorms.

In Lahore, intermittent light and heavy rainfall on Sunday brought cooler temperatures, with a significant drop of approximately 12 degrees Celsius. The PMD forecasted a mix of sun and clouds for Monday in Lahore, with chances of light to heavy rain at night. Minimum temperatures were expected to range from 22-33 degrees Celsius as the monsoon system moved away from the Punjab capital by Monday.

In Sindh, the PMD’s Early Warning System advised residents of Karachi and other areas to prepare for thunderstorms, strong winds, and lightning starting from Monday. Karachi was expected to receive rain from July 8 to 10, with monsoon winds likely triggering rainfall in districts including Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Dadu, and Jacobabad. Coastal areas might see isolated showers, while temperatures were projected to range between 37 to 39 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued alerts for potential floods and glacier bursts in 11 districts. They urged authorities to remain vigilant as thunderstorms, heavy rains, and dusty winds were expected in mountainous areas, with rising temperatures and melting glaciers posing flood risks in low-lying areas.
