PM to Award “Tamgha-i-Imtiaz” to Doctors, Health Workers Martyred During COVID

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday announced to award “Tamgha-i-Imtiaz” (posthumously) to the martyred health workers and doctors who provided medical care and treatment to the patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was decided that Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (posthumously) would be awarded to 87 doctors from Sindh, 81 from Punjab, 4 from Azad Jammu and Kashmir, 23 from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 8 from Balochistan, and one each from Islamabad and Gilgit Baltistan.

Similarly, 59 nurses and frontline healthcare providers from all around Pakistan will also get Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (posthumously) in recognition of their contributions and commitment to saving the lives of others during the Corona pandemic.

The PM said, “These sons and daughters of the country embraced martyrdom from this deadly pandemic while fulfilling their responsibilities.”

The nation, he said, would always be obliged to these dutiful medical professionals and front-line staff. He also paid respect to the loved ones of the doctors and healthcare professionals who had died in battle, calling them the pride of the country. —APP
