ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on Friday congratulated Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on his landmark appointment as Pakistan’s first-ever Chief of Defence Forces, describing it as a historic moment for the country’s security institutions.
In an official statement shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister praised Field Marshal Munir’s “bold and courageous leadership,” crediting him with unifying the Armed Forces and galvanizing the nation during what he termed the “Battle for Truth.”
He said the people of Pakistan would remember his role in guiding the forces to a “decisive victory” and ensuring the homeland’s security during a critical period.
The Prime Minister also extended felicitations to Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu on the extension of his tenure as Chief of Air Staff for two additional years.
He lauded the Air Chief’s exemplary command, noting that under his leadership, the Pakistan Air Force “destroyed seven enemy aircraft and sophisticated missile defence systems” with exceptional professionalism, reinforcing the country’s air superiority.
PM Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed that all national institutions stand united for Pakistan’s defence, development, and prosperity. He added that with collective resolve, Pakistan would continue strengthening its defence to make it “truly invincible.”
Earlier, the Government of Pakistan formally issued notifications announcing Field Marshal Munir’s appointment as Chief of Army Staff and concurrently Chief of Defence Forces, along with the extension of the Air Chief’s tenure.
