SAO PAULO: Family members on Saturday visited legendary footballer Pele at the Sao Paulo hospital in Brazil on Christmas Eve, where he is under treatment for cancer, kidney and heart ailments.
According to a social media post by his daughter, Pele’s son, Edinho, arrive on Christmas eve at the hospital, where he joined his sisters Flavia and Kely Nascimento to inquire after their ailing father.
Late on Saturday, Kely posted a photo of the Brazilian legend’s family members, including his wife Marcia Aoki, who were seen gathered at the Albert Einstein Hospital, where Pele is currently under treatment.
The hospital announced on Wednesday that Pele’s colon cancer was progressing, and he required “more extensive care to treat kidney and heart failure.”
Earlier that day, his daughters said that Pele would not be home for Christmas.

Pele, born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, is widely regarded as the greatest football player in history. He has received numerous messages of sympathy from his fan including from French top footballer Kylian Mbappe, who asked his followers to “pray for the King.”
The former football legend was admitted to the hospital in Sao Paulo on November 29 after doctors called for a re-evaluation of his chemotherapy treatment, which he has been receiving for the last one year after he underwent surgery for the removal of a colon tumour.
