ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to several players’ names—Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan—clearing their path to feature in some of the world’s premier cricket leagues this summer.
This decision is part of the PCB’s evolving strategy to ensure its top talents gain global exposure while keeping a firm grip on workload management.
Under the board’s current policy, centrally contracted players are allowed to participate in up to two overseas franchise leagues per year—a rule that the PCB enforces strictly to align player fitness with national priorities.
Where Pakistan’s Stars Will Shine
A host of Pakistani players are set to feature across major cricketing landscapes:
Big Bash League (Australia): Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan
County Cricket (England): Mohammad Amir, Shan Masood, Kashif Ali, Abbas Afridi, Khawaja Khurram, Hasan Ali
- Global Super League: Khawaja Nafay, Mohammad Nawaz
- Caribbean Premier League: Mohammad Nawaz, Hassan Khan
Interestingly, while Babar Azam’s name hasn’t yet appeared in the initial phase of the BBL draft, his inclusion in the NOC list signals his expected availability.
The BBL 15 Draft, set for June 19, could mark a landmark moment, with Pakistani players eligible for full-season participation for the first time.
Strategic Play for Player Growth
By greenlighting their involvement in these leagues, the PCB is playing a long game, keeping players sharp during the off-season and ensuring they’re battle-ready for international assignments like the ICC T20 World Cup.
As cricket’s global schedule becomes increasingly saturated with overlapping franchise events, the PCB’s forward-thinking approach positions its players to not only remain competitive but also evolve in diverse playing conditions.
The move also acknowledges the rising financial and career potential offered by league cricket. With this policy, the PCB strikes a balance—opening doors for personal growth while safeguarding national interests and player well-being.
With franchise windows heating up, the PCB’s summer strategy is set to amplify Pakistan’s presence across continents, preparing its stars for global stages, while building momentum for the next chapter in international cricket.
