ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces killed 12 terrorists and Afghan Taliban personnel while foiling an infiltration attempt along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Kurram district on October 10, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces detected the movement of a group of terrorists attempting to cross into Pakistan from Afghanistan along the international border.

The statement said security forces, maintaining a high state of alertness and vigilance, effectively thwarted the infiltration attempt. It added that Afghan Taliban posts also opened fire to support the terrorists’ attempted crossing.

“Skilful and precise engagement by vigilant troops resulted in killing of twelve Khwarij and Afghan Taliban,” the ISPR said. During the intense exchange of fire, Naib Subedar Hidayat Aman, 40, a resident of Ghizer district, embraced martyrdom while fighting gallantly, according to the statement.

The ISPR said the incident reinforced Pakistan’s position that the Afghan Taliban regime had failed to prevent terrorist organisations from using Afghan soil for cross-border attacks.

It said the regime had instead facilitated and patronised such activities and had consistently failed to fulfil its international counter-terrorism obligations. The military said a sanitisation operation was under way to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area.

It added that security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue their counter-terrorism campaign under the vision of “Azm-i-Istehkam”, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, to eliminate what it described as foreign-sponsored terrorism.

The statement reaffirmed the security forces’ commitment to defending Pakistan’s borders and safeguarding the country against terrorist threats.
