ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Arif Alvi said on Thursday that former prime minister and PTI chief Imran Khan should openly denounce the May 9 events, in which military installations and public properties were attacked.
In an interview with a private television, he called for taking measures against the miscreants involved in the May 9 events in the country. The President said, “The party (PTI) leadership including the chairman — have condemned the attacks and assaults in which the General Headquarters, Rawalpindi, was also targeted and called for a Supreme Court-led investigation into the May 9 events. The violent protests were started after Imran Khan’s arrest in the Al-Qadir Trust case.

He said that former prime minister Imran Khan did not oppose Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir. The President said, “Imran Khan asked me to tell General Qamar Javid Bajwa that he should accept anyone whom the institution approves as the upcoming chief,”.
The violent protests were started after the arrest of Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case which led to the deaths of 10 people.
After the perpetrators attacked the defense installations in the country, the army said that May 9, 2023 —the day when chaos gripped the country following Imran Khan’s arrest would go down in history as a “dark chapter”.
The army and the government vowed to try the miscreants who attacked army installations under the Official Secrets Act, Pakistan Army Act, and other laws.
