Pakistan’s Planning Minister Directs Expediting Ongoing CPEC Projects

ISLAMABAD: Following the successful 3rd Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) forum 2023 held in Beijing, Pakistan’s Caretaker Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Muhammad Sami Saeed on Tuesday visited the CPEC Secretariat and directed to expedite work on the ongoing projects.

During the visit, the minister was given a briefing on the projects being executed under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and he issued necessary directives to step up the pace of the work.

The meeting was attended, among others, by the Secretary of the Planning Ministry, the CPEC Project Director, and the officials concerned.

The CPEC Project Director gave a briefing regarding the progress related to the completed and ongoing projects, besides areas underlined in the BRI Forum.

The third BRI Forum-2023 was organized in Beijing from 17 to 18 October, in which Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar represented Pakistan.

The forum focused on Research and Innovation, Science and Technology, Industry, Communication, Agriculture, Energy, Tourism and other areas.

CPEC’s Second Phase

The second Phase of CPEC has already started as both nations have been celebrating the decade of CPEC.

During the meeting, the minister emphasized the significance of new areas, including Agriculture, Information Technology, and Science & Technology.

The minister said that CPEC played a vital role in transforming the economic landscape of Pakistan. Sami Saeed said there was a huge potential in the new sectors which needed to be explored.
