ISLAMABAD: The Karachi Bar Association (KBA) has strongly condemned the disrespectful and insensitive remarks made by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman regarding the sacrifices of Pakistan’s security personnel and martyrs.
In a statement on Wednesday, it said the sacrifices rendered by our brave armed forces and law enforcement personnel in defence of the country are beyond any worldly consideration.
“Such remarks undermine the dignity of our martyrs and deeply hurt the sentiments of their bereaved families and the entire nation,” it said.
The Karachi Bar Association paid rich tribute to all martyrs who laid down their lives for the sovereignty, peace, and security of Pakistan.
“We respectfully urge Maulana Fazlur Rehman to withdraw his remarks and acknowledge the invaluable sacrifices of our martyrs in the greater national interest,” it concluded.
Punjab Assembly condemns Fazlur Rehman’s remarks
The Punjab Assembly on Tuesday also condemned remarks by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman against armed forces personnel.
The resolution stated that Pakistan’s martyrs sacrificed their lives to protect the country’s security, sovereignty and its people.
It said such sacrifices should never be associated with salaries or any material benefit, adding that linking the sacrifices of martyrs to financial gains undermines their dignity and hurts the sentiments of their families.
The resolution further stated that any remarks diminishing the significance of the sacrifices made by martyrs or causing disrespect towards them are deeply regrettable.
It paid tribute to the martyrs of the Pakistan Armed Forces, law enforcement agencies, and other security institutions, while expressing complete solidarity with their families.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had strongly criticised Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman over remarks about the country’s armed forces, saying his comments insult the sacrifices of soldiers and the families of martyrs.
In a post on X, Asif described Fazlur Rehman as a seasoned politician and respected religious leader, saying greater responsibility was expected in his choice of words.
“Linking the sacrifices of our soldiers for the country to their salaries is not only unfair but also hurts the sentiments of martyrs and their families,” the defence minister said.
He added that no one sacrifices their life merely for a salary.
“The sacrifice of life is driven by ideology, faith, duty and a deep commitment to the homeland,” Asif said.
