Pakistan’s Designated PM Anwarul Haq Kakar Resigns from Senate and BAP Membership

ISLAMABAD: Anwarul Haq Kakar, the designated caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, has submitted his resignation from his senate seat and his membership in the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), local media reported on Sunday.

Anwarul Haq Kakar, who was recently chosen as Pakistan’s caretaker Prime Minister, expressed his dedication to holding transparent elections as he stepped down from his senate membership. He emphasized that his primary responsibility is to ensure fairness and integrity in the electoral process. In addition to resigning from his senate position, Kakar also announced his departure from the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP).

Anwarul Haq Kakar’s Appointment as Caretaker PM

Kakar’s appointment as the caretaker Prime Minister was endorsed by outgoing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and outgoing opposition leader in the National Assembly Raja Riaz, whose collaboration in the consultation process was appreciated by Kakar. Following the consultation process, President Dr Arif Alvi approved Kakar’s nomination under Article 224 A of the Constitution.

Anwar ul Haq Kakar, a prominent political figure from Balochistan, has been an active participant in the country’s political landscape. Elected to the Senate in 2018, Kakar has served as the parliamentary leader for the Balochistan Awami Party and held key positions in various Senate committees, including Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Finance and Revenue, Foreign Affairs, and Science and Technology.
