ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has urged the international community to take concrete steps to combat the growing trend of Islamophobia by discouraging extremist elements.
He emphasized the importance of promoting interfaith harmony and dialogue among various religions in order to dispel negative stereotypes about Islam.
The president strongly condemned incidents of desecration of the Holy Quran in Denmark and the Netherlands, saying that hate speech against religions was not free expression.
He said that blasphemous incidents motivated by Islamophobia were harming Muslims worldwide. He argued that blasphemy violated the internationally recognised principles of free expression.
Dr Alvi stated that Islam focuses on promoting peace and brotherhood among mankind and urged the international community to act to combat Islamophobia.
