ISLAMABAD: British–Pakistani opera singer Saira Peter has been honoured with the “She Leads UK: Global Woman of Distinction” award at a glittering ceremony held at Windsor Castle in the United Kingdom.
The accolade, which celebrates exceptional women making a global impact, was presented to the Pakistani born soprano in recognition of her unique artistic journey and her role in bridging cultures through music.
Peter, widely regarded as the world’s first Sufi opera singer, has carved a distinctive niche by blending Eastern classical traditions with Western operatic techniques. Her music carries a profound message of peace, spiritual harmony, and cultural unity, themes deeply rooted in Pakistan’s Sufi heritage.
Through her powerful performances, she has introduced global audiences to the richness of South Asian musical traditions while championing interfaith dialogue and women’s empowerment.
The award at Windsor Castle is the latest in a series of international honours for the singer, who has previously received rare recognition from the British royal family for her recordings of the national anthem, making her the first Asian and the only Pakistani artist to receive such an accolade.
She is currently working on ‘Marvi’s Tears’, a groundbreaking full-scale Sufi opera inspired by the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation, which is expected to further elevate her status as a cultural pioneer.

Following the announcement of her achievement, Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, extended his warm congratulations to Saira Peter, describing the honour as a proud moment for the entire nation.

In a statement, the Minister said that Peter’s exceptional talent has illuminated Pakistan’s cultural identity on the global stage and that her success is a testament to the capabilities of Pakistani women.
“Saira Peter is effectively conveying the message of Sufi heritage, peace, and cultural harmony across the world,” Khichi remarked, adding that Pakistani artists are the true ambassadors of the country’s cultural diplomacy.

He further noted that her global acclaim serves as an exemplary model for young artists in Pakistan and reaffirmed that the National Heritage and Culture Division will continue to vigorously encourage and support the international achievements of Pakistani artists.
