Earlier on Thursday, both ministers met in the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, where they were attending the SCO interior ministers’ meeting.
The meetings took place as Islamabad continued diplomatic engagement with regional stakeholders and pursued efforts to facilitate negotiations between the US and Iran.
On Thursday, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Islamabad is continuing its sincere role as mediator between the US and Iran. “Pakistan is proudly, but humbly, playing a sincere role as mediator between the United States and Iran,” PM Sharif stated.
“As I speak, these efforts continue with the support of Iran and the United States, and let us pray to Allah Almighty that we achieve long-lasting peace as early as possible,” PM Sharif said.
On April 8, Pakistan brokered a ceasefire between the US and Iran and intensified mediation efforts to permanently end the conflict through negotiations.
On April 11 and 12, Pakistan hosted high-stakes direct talks between the US and Iranian negotiators in Islamabad.
The Islamabad Talks between the US and Iran concluded without reaching a final agreement; however, they paved the way for diplomacy to permanently end the conflict.
