ISLAMABAD: A 24-year-old Pakistani fast bowler, Aleem Khan, tragically passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest during a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Challenge Cup match in Bannu on 5 May, local media reported on Tuesday.
The incident occurred during a two-day domestic fixture when Khan suddenly collapsed while bowling. He was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to revive him, he sadly did not survive.
Umpire Inamullah Khan, who was officiating the match, stated, “Aleem collapsed while bowling. We immediately called for medical assistance and rushed him to the hospital, but unfortunately, he could not be saved.”
Death of athlete
PCB Director of Domestic Cricket, Abdullah Khurram Niazi, expressed profound sorrow over the young cricketer’s untimely passing.
“We are deeply saddened by Khan’s death. Our heartfelt condolences are with his family during this difficult time,” he said.
Family sources confirmed that Khan, who was a resident of Bannu, has since been laid to rest.
Bannu, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has a passionate cricketing following with many like Aleem Khan dreaming of donning the Green Shirt in the future.
