ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has topped the global list of Erasmus Mundus scholarship recipients for 2025, with 114 students selected for the prestigious EU-funded Erasmus+ Joint Masters Programme—placing the country ahead of India, Bangladesh, Mexico, and Nigeria.
What makes this year’s success even more inspiring is the historic surge in female representation. Out of the 114 selected scholars, 66 are women, making up nearly 58% of Pakistan’s awardees, according to Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The Erasmus Mundus programme, one of the world’s most competitive scholarships, selected 2,176 students from 137 countries this year.
Yet, once again, it was Pakistan’s youth—brimming with ambition, resilience, and brilliance—who claimed the top spot.
Though the total number of Pakistani awardees is slightly lower than last year’s 189, the leap in female participation marks a transformative shift in the nation’s educational landscape.
These scholarships open the doors to multinational academic journeys through Europe, where recipients study across three or more countries, engage in cutting-edge research, complete internships, and craft a jointly supervised thesis.
With full funding for tuition, travel, visas, and living expenses, the programme is more than just a scholarship—it’s a launchpad for global changemakers.
Congratulating the scholars, the EU Delegation in Islamabad called it a “proud moment” and a testament to Pakistan’s growing reputation in international academia.
