Voluntary Service Overseas Celebrates International Youth Day

ISLAMABAD: Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) commemorated ‘International Youth Day’ in Islamabad, emphasizing the vital role of youth in addressing the contemporary challenges Pakistan faces through active engagement.

The event drew significant attendance, including government representatives, international donors, and members of civil society.

During the event, Seher Afsheen, the Country Representative of VSO, discussed the organization’s objectives, particularly the enhancement and formalization of the existing Volunteer Policy.

Afsheen highlighted the invaluable support received from the United Kingdom and stressed the crucial role of education in empowering young people to contribute to the nation’s development.

In her closing remarks, Jane Marriott CMG OBE, the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, emphasized the significance of empowering Pakistan’s youth to take the lead in addressing current challenges, notably climate change.

She acknowledged the accomplishments of Pakistan’s dynamic youth and underscored the importance of ensuring access to quality education for every child.

The event also saw the participation of Dr. Muhammad Ali Malik, Deputy Secretary for the Prime Minister’s Youth Program, and Sabiha Shaheen from Bargad, along with other development partners.

They highlighted the impact of climate change and underscored the positive role that youth can play in climate change adaptation and resilient education.
