Pakistan Sets up Cell for Families of Greece Boat Victims

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Interior, in response to the tragic boat incident in Greece, has established a coordination cell tasked with providing crucial information and updates on the victims.

The cell has been set up on the directives issued by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Led by the Additional Secretary (Border Management) at the Ministry of Interior, the cell has assumed a range of responsibilities including working with the Federal Investigation Agency.

It will conduct initial screenings to verify the information provided by relatives of the ill-fated passengers on the boat. Additionally, the cell will establish camp offices in Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and other necessary locations, facilitating the identification and dissemination of information regarding suitable places for DNA sampling.

A key responsibility of the cell is to assist the families and relatives of the passengers in obtaining DNA samples, adhering to the specific parameters outlined by Pakistan’s Embassy in Greece. Furthermore, the coordination cell will collaborate with the Punjab Forensic Science Agency to prepare DNA reports and facilitate their transmission to Greece, ensuring a seamless and coordinated effort in addressing this tragic incident.
