ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is preparing for a major revival of international hockey at home, with the national federation announcing plans to host China, Canada and three European teams over the next six months, alongside a proposed 10-nation international event and a domestic hockey league.
Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) President Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani said the planned tours would provide the national team and local players with greater exposure to international competition while helping restore regular international hockey activity in the country.
China to tour Pakistan in November
Speaking to the media, Wani said the Chinese hockey team is scheduled to visit Pakistan in November 2026, following Korea’s tour.
He said Canada would also tour Pakistan after the Chinese team’s visit, while three European teams had expressed readiness to visit the country.
The PHF president said the arrival of international teams would contribute to the promotion and revival of hockey in Pakistan and provide opportunities for domestic players to compete against stronger international opposition.

PHF plans 10-nation event and hockey league
Wani also revealed that Pakistan is planning to host an international hockey tournament featuring 10 countries in December next year.
In addition, the federation plans to launch a hockey league in Pakistan next year as part of its efforts to strengthen the sport at the domestic level and create more competitive opportunities for players.
He said hosting international teams and tournaments would help develop Pakistan’s hockey infrastructure and generate greater interest in the sport.

PHF seeks neutral venue for Champions Trophy
Discussing the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy, Wani said the decision to shift the tournament to a neutral venue rests with the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF).
He said the PHF had already requested the continental governing body to move the tournament from India to a neutral venue, but the AHF had yet to communicate a decision to Pakistan.
“We understand the rules and regulations that have to be followed in this matter, but we have made our position clear,” Wani said.
The PHF president stressed that Pakistan’s national honour and dignity remained the federation’s top priority in dealing with international hockey matters.
