ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reported a 14 percent increase in exports during the first two months of the current fiscal year compared to the same period last year, official data said.
According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), exports for July-August 2024-25 totaled $5.050 billion, up from $4.430 billion in July-August 2023-24.
Imports also rose by 5.67 percent, climbing from $8.165 billion last year to $8.628 billion during the initial two months of the current fiscal year.
Despite the increase in both exports and imports, the trade deficit narrowed by 4.20 percent. For the months under review, the deficit was $3.578 billion, compared to $3.735 billion the previous year.
In August 2024, exports surged by 15.93 percent, reaching $2.743 billion compared to $2.366 billion in August 2023. Imports for the same month decreased by 1.25 percent, falling from $4.474 billion to $4.418 billion.
Month-on-month comparisons show that exports in August 2024 were up 18.90 percent from $2.307 billion in July 2024. Imports also increased by 4.92 percent from $4.418 billion in July 2024, according to PBS data.
