ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways is all set to unveil its brand-new, state-of-the-art business train on July 19, heralding a new era of luxury and efficiency in national rail travel.

This high-tech marvel promises to redefine passenger expectations with its blend of modern comforts and technological innovation.

The train will be formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in a grand ceremony in Lahore, underscoring the significance of this ambitious step in the government’s broader modernisation agenda.

Designed for comfort

Equipped with 28 digitally enhanced coaches, complimentary Wi-Fi connectivity, and an international-standard dining car, the new business train is engineered for comfort, convenience, and class. From corporate commuters to seasoned travellers, passengers can expect a seamless journey that fuses tradition with modernity.

“This isn’t just a train — it’s a symbol of the future we envision for Pakistan Railways,” said an official source from the Ministry of Railways, emphasising the government’s commitment to reshaping the public transport landscape.

Multi-pronged initiative

The launch is part of a larger, multi-pronged initiative to overhaul Pakistan Railways’ ageing infrastructure. Alongside the new train service, the ministry has rolled out digital ticketing systems, upgraded station amenities, and enhanced onboard services — all aimed at improving passenger satisfaction and operational performance.

In parallel developments, Pakistan Railways is embracing public-private partnerships by outsourcing various services, including the commercial management of passenger trains. Officials revealed that this strategy has already paid dividends. Over the past three years, the department has generated more than Rs3.95 billion in revenue from the operation of brake and luggage vans — a feat achieved through both in-house efforts and transparent outsourcing to private contractors.

“Outsourcing has been conducted via open tenders, publicly advertised and managed with full transparency,” the official added, noting the growing role of private participation in enhancing railway services.
