DOHA: Pakistan and Qatar have agreed to further enhance cooperation in the security sector, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Qatari Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force “Lekhwiya,” Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and Pakistan’s Minister of Interior and Narcotics Control Mohsin Naqvi in Doha on Monday, the Qatari interior ministry said in a statement.

“During the meeting, they reviewed the relations between the two countries in the security field. They discussed ways to further strengthen and develop them, in addition to exchanging views on several issues of mutual interest,” the statement said.

Pakistan, Qatar share strong economic and investment ties
Pakistan and Qatar share strong economic and investment ties, with both countries continuing to expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
In 2022, the office of Qatar’s Emir announced that the Qatar Investment Authority planned to invest $3 billion in Pakistan, focusing on key areas including transport, aviation, education, healthcare, media, technology and labour.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, nearly 300,000 Pakistanis are living and working in Qatar, contributing to sectors such as healthcare, education, engineering, public services, construction and transport. The two countries maintain regular engagement through platforms including Bilateral Political Consultations and the Joint Ministerial Commission.
Pakistan and Qatar have played an active diplomatic role in efforts to reduce tensions between Iran and the United States, urging dialogue and a peaceful resolution to avoid further escalation in the region.
Through diplomatic engagement and high-level contacts, both countries have emphasised the importance of regional stability, restraint and resolving differences through negotiations.

It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Qatar this month to express solidarity with the leadership and people of Qatar on the passing away of the former Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Pakistan’s Government also announced a day of national mourning following the death of former Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division.
