“I welcome the announcement of a Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, which will hopefully pave the way for a final agreement and lay the foundation for durable and comprehensive peace in the region,” President Zardari said.
He noted that Pakistan had consistently supported diplomatic efforts throughout the period of tensions and remained committed to peaceful solutions to international disputes.
The president expressed hope that the understanding would contribute to greater peace, stability and prosperity for both the region and the wider world.
Separately, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also welcomed the breakthrough, describing it as a reflection of the power of sustained diplomatic engagement and the collective resolve of friendly nations to choose dialogue over confrontation.
Dar said the development would send a reassuring message to the international community while providing much-needed confidence and stability to global markets and the world economy, particularly developing countries vulnerable to regional instability.
He highlighted Pakistan’s active engagement with all concerned parties throughout the negotiations and reiterated Islamabad’s longstanding position that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable means for resolving disputes.
The foreign minister also appreciated the trust placed in Pakistan by the leadership of both the United States and Iran and acknowledged the diplomatic support provided by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Türkiye, Egypt, the United Nations and other international partners.
