ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will travel to Iran and Türkiye from July 3 to 5, beginning his visit by attending the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Pakistan’s Foreign Office announced on Thursday.
Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said the prime minister would first visit Iran to participate in Khamenei’s funeral before travelling to Istanbul at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
“The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, will go to Iran and Turkey from 3-5 July… he will go to Iran first for (the) supreme leader’s funeral,” spokesman Tahir Andrabi told reporters.
Shehbaz will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, cabinet members and senior officials.
During his visit to Iran, the prime minister will convey condolences on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan to the Iranian leadership and the bereaved families, while reaffirming Pakistan’s solidarity with Iran, Andrabi said.
Türkiye Visit
Following his visit to Iran, Shehbaz will travel to Türkiye for meetings with President Erdoğan aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.
According to the Foreign Office, the leaders will discuss the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation, with particular emphasis on expanding trade, investment and economic collaboration, as well as regional peace and security.
The prime minister will also address a Pakistan-hosted business conference highlighting investment opportunities in special economic zones (SEZs), energy, trade, information technology and privatisation.
The conference will bring together Turkish business leaders, investors, senior government officials and representatives of the private sector.
Andrabi said the visits reflected Pakistan’s “deep-rooted, historic, cultural and fraternal ties” with Iran and Türkiye.
