Pakistan Met Office Warns of Urban Flooding in Several Metropolitan Cities of Punjab

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has said that the current monsoon activity is likely to continue over the upper catchments of all the major rivers, along with north and northeast Punjab, up to July 9.

According to PMD weather updates, “Flash flood is expected in the tributaries of the river Kabul, along the hill torrents of DG Khan Division and East Balochistan”.

It forecasts that “urban flooding is expected in metropolitan cities of north and central Punjab up to July 10”.

Flash floods

The PMD warned that flash floods are expected in the adjacent streams of the river Kabul from July 7 to July 9.

The Met Office also forecast that “Urban flooding is likely in Lahore, Gujranwala and Rawalpindi divisions from July 7 to 9”.

High flood is likely in the river Chenab at Marala due to the expected increase in water inflow during July 8-9, according to the PMD.

High flood is expected at Mangla in the river Jhelum due to the likely increase in water inflow during the next two days, the PMD said.

It added that a medium to high level of flooding is likely in the adjacent tributaries of Chenab and Ravi rivers from July 7 to 9.

Hill torrents of Balochistan

Medium-high level of flooding is likely in the adjacent tributaries of Chenab and Ravi rivers from July 7 to 9, it added.

Medium to high flash flooding is likely in the hill torrents of eastern Balochistan from July 7 to 9, the PMD warned.

Low low-level flood is likely in the river Indus at Taunsa during the next 24 hours, it further warned.
