ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the Maldives have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations as the two countries prepare for the forthcoming visit of Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu to Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Maldivian Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam and discussed preparations for the forthcoming visit of President Muizzu to Pakistan, the Foreign Office said on Saturday.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Pakistan–Maldives relations and agreed to remain in close coordination to ensure a substantive and productive visit.

The scheduled visit of the Maldivian President follows a series of high-level exchanges between the two countries.

Deputy PM Dar and Foreign Minister Adam met on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September. During the meeting, they agreed to expand cooperation in trade, connectivity, economic relations, business-to-business links, academia and defence.

Pakistan and the Maldives’ cooperation spans trade, education, health, defence, capacity-building and climate change.

A Maldivian parliamentary delegation led by People’s Majlis Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla also visited Pakistan in September to discuss bilateral relations and strengthen cooperation between the two legislatures.
