ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Libya have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence relations and expanding military cooperation after a high-level meeting between senior military leaders in Rawalpindi, according to Pakistan’s Inter Services Public Relations.

Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, called on Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Staff, at the General Headquarters of the Pakistan Army on Wednesday.

The visit began with an official welcome ceremony at the military headquarters, where the Libyan commander was presented with a guard of honour by a tri-services contingent representing Pakistan’s army, navy and air force.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the media affairs wing of Pakistan’s armed forces, the two sides held detailed discussions on issues of mutual interest, regional security developments and opportunities to deepen defence cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting focused on ways to enhance military-to-military engagement, including collaboration in professional military education, training programmes and broader security cooperation.

Officials said both sides underscored the importance of maintaining close defence contacts and building stronger institutional links between their armed forces.

Field Marshal Munir highlighted the Pakistan Army’s commitment to promoting regional peace, stability and constructive engagement with friendly nations.

He reiterated Pakistan’s support for strengthening partnerships that contribute to security cooperation and professional military development.

The Libyan delegation expressed appreciation for the professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces and acknowledged their contributions to regional peace and security.

The visiting commander also welcomed the prospects for greater cooperation between the two militaries.
