ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is set to establish a formal professional boxing structure under the newly announced Pakistan Professional Boxing Board, an initiative spearheaded by former world champion Amir Khan to provide local fighters with modern training facilities, financial support and opportunities to compete internationally.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Khan said the board would introduce a structured system for registering and licensing boxers, referees and judges, while also arranging professional training and building links with international boxing organisations.
Pakistan establishes the Professional Boxing Board under Amir Khan to develop local talent, provide international exposure and create pathways for Pakistani fighters to compete for global titles.

Bringing Pakistan’s boxing talent into the spotlight
Khan said Pakistan had considerable boxing talent, particularly in areas such as Karachi’s Lyari, but many aspiring fighters lacked access to proper facilities and professional guidance.
He called on the government to support the initiative by establishing boxing academies in vacant sports complexes and on state-owned land, providing young athletes with opportunities to develop their skills.

He said financial difficulties often forced talented Pakistani boxers to move abroad or represent other countries, adding that the new board aimed to create a system in which athletes could pursue professional careers at home.

International exposure and financial support
Under the proposed framework, Pakistani boxers will be given opportunities to compete overseas, receive sponsorships and benefit from world-class training.
Khan said fighters would be paid for their participation regardless of whether they won or lost, helping provide financial security and encourage more young athletes to enter professional boxing.
