ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani government has increased electricity tariffs by Rs1.74 per unit through a quarterly adjustment.

A notification issued on Wednesday said that the price hike will affect consumers nationwide, including those served by K-Electric and various distribution companies (DISCOs).

The tariff adjustment is projected to raise over Rs43 billion in additional revenue and will be applied to electricity bills for the months of September, October, and November.

The decision was finalized following a recommendation from the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), which was sent to the federal government for approval on September 6.

Furthermore, the Punjab government has rescinded its Rs14 per unit electricity subsidy for Islamabad consumers after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) objected to the subsidy.

However, the subsidy will remain in effect for consumers in Punjab until September 30. Consumers who used fewer than 500 units in August benefited from the subsidized rates.
