ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Italy have stressed the importance of implementing the understanding reached between the United States and Iran and supporting ongoing international efforts to promote lasting peace and stability in the region, including in Lebanon.
In their telephone conversation on Monday, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani discussed regional developments.
“DPM/FM thanked the Italian side, including Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s appreciation of Pakistan’s mediation efforts that facilitated the understanding reached between the United States and Iran,” a Foreign Office statement said.
They stressed the importance of implementing the understandings reached and sustaining international efforts for lasting peace and stability in the region, including in Lebanon.

“They underlined that the opening of the Strait of Hormuz is a positive step for global energy flows, trade, and the broader international economy,” it said.
Appreciating the positive trajectory of Pakistan–Italy ties, both leaders welcomed the recent signing of the agreement on the abolition of visas for diplomatic passport holders between Pakistan and Italy.
“They reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation across all areas of mutual interest and agreed to remain in contact,” it said.
US and Iranian officials announced on Sunday that they had agreed on a framework aimed at ending hostilities, lifting the US blockade on Iran and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route.
US President Donald Trump declared on his Truth Social platform that a deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran had been completed, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced earlier on Monday that a peace agreement between the United States and Iran had been reached following intensive diplomatic efforts in which Pakistan played a mediating role.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) would be formally signed in Switzerland on June 19.
Pakistan has consistently supported diplomatic efforts during the period of tensions between the United States and Iran and has remained committed to peaceful solutions to international disputes.
