ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert of possible Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) for vulnerable glaciated regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa due to likely rains.
In an alert issued on Monday, the PMD stated, “The prevailing weather conditions increase the risk of Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF), flash flood, and landslide events in vulnerable glaciated regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa”.
The PMD said that a wet spell is likely to affect Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in the current week.
According to the PMD, during this period, scattered rain and thundersome, with isolate heavy falls are expected in GB and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Pakistan Met Office has predicated strong winds and thundershowers in northeastern Punjab, Potohar region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir on Monday.
Heavy rain is also expected at a few places during this period, according to the Met Office. It said that hot and humid weather is likely to continue in most parts of the country today.
According to the Met Office, in Punjab, Lahore has received 74 mm rain at airport while 41 mm at city during last 24 hours.
Another spell of monsoon
It added that in Lahore, 89 mm rain has been recorded at Pani Wala Talab, 72 mm at Lakshmi Chowk, 57 mm at Chowk Nakhuda, and 45 mm at Jail Road.
The Met Office said that Rawalpindi has received 50 mm rain while 50 mm has been recorded in Sialkot.
Earlier on Sunday, Radio Pakistan reported that the Met Office forecast another spell of Monsoon rains with wind-thundershowers in various parts of the country from Monday.
The Met Office also warned that heavy rains may trigger flash floods in local streams and nullahs, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Punjab, Kashmir and the hilly areas of Murree and Galiyat.
