ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, during a telephone conversation, have expressed concern over Israeli ceasefire violations in Lebanon amid ongoing regional tensions.
During the call, Ishaq Dar felicitated the Iranian leadership, government, and people on the signing of the historic “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” with the United States, a Foreign Office statement said on Friday.
“He also conveyed his best wishes for the commencement of the next phase of negotiations, expressing hope that the process would move smoothly and yield positive outcomes,” it said.
Foreign Minister Araghchi also expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s constructive and sustained mediation efforts.

“The two leaders exchanged views on regional developments and highlighted the ceasefire violations conducted by Israel in Lebanon, expressing serious concern over the situation,” the statement said.
FM Araghchi expressed gratitude to Pakistan for facilitating the repatriation of 30 Iranian nationals, including eight fishermen rescued at sea by the United Kingdom and 22 crew members recently intercepted by the United States. Their transit arrangements are currently being coordinated by Pakistani authorities.
Both sides also underscored the importance of continued engagement and agreed to remain in close contact going forward.
The call came shortly after Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire. However, according to the latest update from the Lebanese health ministry, Israeli airstrikes and bombardments in Lebanon on Friday killed at least 47 people and injured 97 others, underscoring the volatile situation on the ground despite the announced truce.
It is pertinent to mention that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday telephoned Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and thanked Pakistan for its key role in diplomatic efforts that led to the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The telephone conversation, which lasted more than 30 minutes, was the first contact between the two leaders after the signing of the historic agreement on Thursday morning.
Prime Minister Sharif congratulated President Pezeshkian, the Iranian leadership, and the people of Iran on the signing of a historic peace deal.
