ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Iran on Tuesday agreed to deepen cooperation in counterterrorism, counternarcotics, border security and efforts to curb illegal immigration and human trafficking, as Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni held wide-ranging talks with his Pakistani counterpart Mohsin Naqvi amid heightened regional tensions.
The meeting also carried a broader diplomatic message, with Naqvi expressing optimism that “good news” on regional peace could emerge soon. He praised Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Momeni for what he described as their “extraordinary efforts” to promote peace and stability.

Momeni was accorded a warm welcome at Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior, where Naqvi received him. A contingent of the Federal Constabulary presented a guard of honour before the two ministers held one-on-one talks, followed by delegation-level discussions.
Security Cooperation
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation in security, trade and border management.
The ministers agreed to enhance collaboration in combating terrorism, drug trafficking, illegal immigration and human smuggling. Recognising shared security challenges, they stressed the need for a coordinated approach to tackling terrorism and narcotics smuggling originating from the Afghanistan border region.
The two countries also agreed to strengthen institutional coordination and expand intelligence-sharing mechanisms to improve cooperation against transnational threats.
“Pakistan is ready to enhance cooperation with Iran in all fields,” Naqvi said during the talks.
Regional Peace
Referring to recent diplomatic efforts, Naqvi commended Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni for their “extraordinary efforts” to promote regional peace and expressed hope that positive developments would soon help restore stability in the region.
Senior-Level Delegations
The Iranian delegation included the Governor-General of Sistan-Baluchestan Province, Iran’s Deputy Interior Minister, Deputy Minister for Urban Development and Transport, the head of the National Iranian Oil Company, the Special Representative of Iran’s Agriculture Minister and other senior officials.
The Pakistani delegation comprised Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Federal Interior Secretary, Chairman NADRA, Director General FIA, Director General Anti-Narcotics Force, Inspector General Federal Constabulary, Director General NCCIA, Director General Immigration and Passports, Chairman CDA, Inspector General Islamabad Police and senior officials from the Ministry of Interior.
The visit is part of ongoing high-level engagement between Islamabad and Tehran aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and coordinating responses to evolving regional security challenges.
