ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has unveiled its fully digital Hajj 2027 system through the Pak Hajj App, marking a new era of transparency and efficiency in the country’s pilgrimage management as authorities announced the official costs for pilgrims.

Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousuf made the announcement at a press conference in Islamabad, revealing that the 40-42-day long Hajj package will cost Rs1.2 million, while the 20-22-day short package has been set at Rs1.3 million. The new digital system will enable pilgrims to complete applications and make payments seamlessly through the app and online portal.

Digital revolution in Hajj management
The government’s push towards a fully digital system represents a significant leap forward in Pakistan’s Hajj administration. Under the new framework, applications, payments, and all related processes will be conducted online through the Pak Hajj app.
“The objective is to reduce queues, travel costs, and waiting times for pilgrims while ensuring complete transparency,” minister stated during the press conference.
The first installment of Hajj expenses will be collected from pilgrims starting August 17, with the second installment due in the second week of October. Around 400,000 registered pilgrims are currently progressing through the application process, with a government allocation of 107,526 total slots for 2027.

Short Hajj package quota and waiting list
The government scheme has reserved 30,000 seats for pilgrims opting for the short Hajj package. Payments for both schemes will cease once their respective quotas are filled.
In a move to ensure fairness, Yousuf announced that individuals unable to perform Hajj in 2027 would be placed on a waiting list for the following year, eliminating the need for annual re-registration.

Banking partnership with bank
Habib Bank Limited has been selected as the ministry’s authorised banking partner for collecting Hajj payments, with an agreement set to be signed between the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Habib Bank Islamic on Monday.
Addressing questions about the selection process, the minister clarified that the ministry had invited all banks to participate. “Several banks applied, but only Habib Bank met the required criteria, particularly the conditions related to digital payments,” Yousuf explained.
Habib Bank Islamic head Asad Khan announced that 99 percent of the bank’s branches nationwide would offer digital payment facilities, with pilgrims able to pay using credit and debit cards. The bank has connected 80 percent of its branches in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Islamic banking services and is expanding similar services across Balochistan.

Importantly, Khan confirmed that the bank would not charge pilgrims for Hajj payments under its Islamic banking arrangement.

Private Hajj scheme integration
Pilgrims under the private Hajj scheme, which has been allocated 71,684 slots, will also be able to make payments through the Pak Hajj app. The minister emphasised that financial transactions related to Hajj would not be conducted through any other method.
Private pilgrims will be able to select a service provider from 25 approved online companies themselves, with all payments processed through the government’s digital system. Yousuf urged prospective pilgrims to use official channels and avoid unauthorised payments.
