Pakistan Forms Committee to Analyze Covid-19 JN.1 Variant

ISLAMABAD: The Punjab health ministry has formed a committee to analyze the new COVID-19 variant “JN.1 Omicron” in Pakistan. As per the notification issued, the committee formed to analyze the new COVID-19 variant will forward suggestions to the Punjab government.

The notification said that the committee would review the diagnoses of the new variant on old test kits and the number of people affected by the lethal virus.

On Monday, six passengers who landed at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, coming from abroad, tested positive for the new Covid variant.

According to the Sindh Health Department, the rapid antigen tests of 6 passengers conducted at Jinnah International Airport came back positive.

The passengers found positive for the JN.1 variant, currently a cause of concern in several nations, are residents of Rahim Yar Khan, Charsadda, Swat, Mirpur, and Jacobabad.

The health department stated that the affected passengers were tested for possible symptoms of the virus.

Patients of COVID-19’s New Variant 

The number of JN.1 variant cases in Karachi has now risen to fifteen after the detection of fresh patients.

It is to be noted that the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) has decided to conduct COVID-19 testing of passengers coming from abroad.

The forum okayed COVID-19 testing at the airports and borders.

Meanwhile, Caretaker Federal Minister for Health Dr. Nadeem Jan said that the government is continuously monitoring the situation as this Omicron sub-virus was found in some nations.
