ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Egypt have strongly condemned the Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, while reaffirming their full solidarity with the Kingdom and support for its sovereignty, territorial integrity and security.

The condemnation came during a phone conversation between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, a Foreign Office statement said on Sunday.

“The two leaders exchanged views on recent regional developments,” it said.

According to the Foreign Office, they also discussed cooperation under the R-4 (Pakistan, Egypt, Turkiye and Saudi Arabia) framework and looked forward to the next meeting of the R-4 soon to further strengthen mutual ties and to coordinate on regional issues.

Earlier on Thursday, the two leaders also spoke over the phone and discussed the latest regional developments, underscoring that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only way forward to address all issues.

“They reaffirmed the resolve to continue supporting efforts to advance dialogue and de-escalation, and agreed to remain closely engaged on all matters of mutual interest,” the Foreign Office said.

Pakistan maintains cordial relations with Egypt, while it signed a landmark trilateral defence pact with Turkiye and Saudi Arabia in August. Under the agreement, an attack against any one of the three countries would be regarded as an attack against all three.

UN Security Council Statement

Members of the United Nations Security Council on Thursday strongly condemned the ongoing and escalating Houthi attacks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including attacks targeting civil aviation and energy infrastructure that resulted in civilian deaths and injuries.

According to a statement issued by the UN Security Council president, these included “reckless strikes targeting King Khalid International Airport” on October 10 and 11, which resulted in deaths and injuries, as well as multiple strikes targeting other airports and Saudi Aramco facilities.
