ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday strongly condemned the recent Israeli airstrike in Gaza that killed numerous civilians, describing it as a grave violation of international humanitarian and human rights law.
An Israeli airstrike on a house on Monday killed a family of eight in Gaza City’s al-Zeitoun neighbourhood, Wafa news agency reported, citing medical sources. The victims include the mother, father and their six children.
“Pakistan extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people during this period of profound suffering”, Foreign Office Spokesman Shafaqat Ali Khan said in a statement.
This egregious attack, he said, constitutes yet another serious violation of international humanitarian and human rights law, underscoring the scale and severity of the crimes perpetrated by the occupying power.
He reaffirmed the government’s call upon the international community to take immediate and decisive action to end Israeli impunity, ensure the protection of civilians, and hold Israel accountable for its actions.
“Pakistan reiterates its longstanding support for the Palestinian cause and advocates for a just, sustainable, and peaceful resolution, in line with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions that uphold the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people,” he said in the statement.
He noted this includes the establishment of an independent, sovereign, viable, and contiguous Palestinian State, based on the pre-June 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Since October 7, 2023, Israeli attacks on Gaza have resulted in the deaths of over 61,499 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and left more than 153,575 wounded, the territory’s health ministry stated on Monday.
