The flagship project under the division is the Up-scaling of Green Pakistan Programme (Revised) , which has received the lion’s share of Rs2,335.499 million. This massive initiative is designed to expand forest cover, promote biodiversity, and combat the adverse effects of climate change through nationwide afforestation and conservation efforts. The programme is expected to create green jobs, improve air quality, and restore degraded ecosystems across the country.
Another critical scheme is the Strengthening Technical Capacities of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination (STC – MoCC&EC) (Revised) , for which Rs40.661 million has been allocated.
This project aims to equip the ministry with modern tools, expert manpower, and robust policy frameworks to effectively address emerging environmental threats and coordinate climate action at both national and international levels.
In a forward-looking initiative, the Green Skills for Sustainable Development: Promoting Green Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Pakistan project has been allocated Rs51.600 million.
This innovative scheme focuses on empowering young entrepreneurs with environmentally sustainable skills, fostering green businesses, and creating job opportunities in the renewable energy, waste management, and eco-friendly sectors. By investing in human capital, the government is ensuring that Pakistan’s youth become active participants in the green economy.
The fourth ongoing project, the Formulation of National Urban Strategy & Guidelines to Reduce Impacts of Urban Flooding, Droughts, Climate Disasters, and National Guidelines for Spatial Planning considering Climate Change/ Disaster Risks in Pakistan, has received Rs50.000 million.
This crucial initiative aims to develop comprehensive urban planning guidelines to mitigate the devastating impacts of climate-induced disasters, particularly urban flooding and droughts that have repeatedly threatened Pakistani cities like Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi.
The total allocation of Rs2,477.760 million under PSDP 2026-27 sends a message that Pakistan is serious about meeting its climate commitments and protecting its citizens from the growing threats of global warming.
Environmental experts have hailed the budget allocation as a game-changer for a country that remains one of the most vulnerable to climate change despite contributing minimally to global carbon emissions. Officials expressed confidence that these projects would significantly enhance Pakistan’s preparedness against climate disasters and pave the way for a greener, more resilient, and prosperous future for generations to come.
