ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has closed down various sections of the motorway after intense fog gripped mainly plain areas in Punjab, Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, bringing visibility to sub-zero level, making travel almost impossible amidst minute visibility.
Heavy fog continues to prevail in many cities including Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot and other areas cities.
Severe fog gripped several areas in Sindh, Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa as at least three people were killed on motorway in Bahawalpur.
Motorway closed down
According to motorway police, Motorway M1 has been closed from Peshawar to Islamabad and Motorway M2 from Lahore to Kot Momin due to heavy fog.
It said that Motorway M4 had been closed for traffic from Faisalabad to Abdul Hakeem due to fog and low visibility and Motorway M5 has been closed from Shershah to Rohri.
Multan Motorway has been closed from Faizpur to Durkhana and Lahore. Sialkot Motorway M11 and Swat Expressway have also been closed for traffic from Colonel Sher Khan to Ismaila.
On the other hand, three people were killed as a result of a collision between a van and a trailer near Ahmedpur Sharqiya Toll Plaza in Bahawalpur due to heavy fog.
Fog has also disrupted the schedule of flights and trains across Pakistan.
Due to the fog, flights have badly affected at the Faisalabad airport as flights from Abu Dhabi to Faisalabad have been diverted to the Lahore airport. Flights between Bahrain and Faisalabad have also been canceled due to fog.
