ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), in coordination with the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), has issued a nationwide weather alert warning of thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and hailstorms expected to lash several parts of Pakistan from Monday through Friday.

The authority has also cautioned citizens and provincial administrations about the heightened risk of flash floods, landslides, and glacial lake outburst floods (GLOF), particularly in the northern regions, attributing the threat to rising temperatures and accelerated glacier melting.

According to the official advisory, strong winds, rain, and isolated hailstorms are likely to affect Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The NDMA noted that the prevailing weather conditions align with forecasts and seasonal assessments issued by the NEOC months earlier. It further stated that pre-monsoon preparedness measures have already been reviewed during a national monsoon conference convened on the prime minister’s directives.
