RAWALPINDI: Half-centuries from Maaz Sadaqat and captain Sahibzada Farhan, followed by a disciplined bowling performance, powered Pakistan to an 82-run victory over Sri Lanka in the second T20I of the three-match series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

The victory gave Pakistan an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series with one match remaining, scheduled to be played at the same venue on Tuesday.

After being put in to bat, Pakistan posted an imposing 215-3 in their 20 overs, with Sadaqat scoring a team-high 96 off 51 deliveries and Farhan contributing 73 off 44 balls.

In reply, Sri Lanka managed 133-7 in their allotted 20 overs, falling well short of the 216-run target as Pakistan’s bowlers maintained pressure throughout the chase.

Sadaqat, Farhan Power Pakistan to 215

Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis elected to field first, but Pakistan made the most of the opportunity as openers Fakhar Zaman and Farhan provided a brisk start, adding 55 runs for the first wicket.

Maheesh Theekshana broke the partnership on the fifth delivery of the seventh over, dismissing Fakhar, who scored 22 off 17 balls, including four boundaries.

Sadaqat joined Farhan at the crease and helped Pakistan consolidate their position. The pair added 88 runs for the second wicket, with Farhan bringing up his 12th T20I half-century.

Sri Lanka all-rounder Dasun Shanaka eventually ended the stand in the 15th over, dismissing Farhan for 73. The Pakistan captain struck five sixes and four fours during his 44-ball innings.

Sadaqat then joined Hasan Nawaz to keep the scoring rate high. The pair added 72 runs for the fourth wicket, with Sadaqat falling on the final delivery of the innings, just four runs short of his maiden T20I century.

The left-hander struck seven fours and six sixes in his 51-ball knock of 96, while Hasan remained unbeaten on 19 off nine deliveries.

Shanaka, Theekshana and Nuwan Thushara took one wicket apiece for Sri Lanka.

Pakistan Bowlers Restrict Sri Lanka

Chasing 216, Sri Lanka suffered an early setback when Salman Mirza dismissed opener Lahiru Udara for five in the first over, leaving the visitors at six for one.

Mendis joined Sineth Jayawardena, and the pair added 29 runs for the second wicket before Mohammad Imran dismissed Jayawardena on the final delivery of the powerplay.

The breakthrough triggered a collapse as Sri Lanka lost four more wickets, including Mendis for nine, to slump to 74-6 in 11.5 overs.

Chamindu Wickramasinghe and Maheesh Theekshana offered some resistance, putting together a 50-run partnership for the seventh wicket to delay Pakistan’s victory.

Salman broke the stand on the fifth delivery of the penultimate over, dismissing Wickramasinghe for 29 off 24 balls. His innings included a six and a four.

Theekshana top-scored for Sri Lanka with an unbeaten 32 off 26 deliveries, including four boundaries, but the visitors finished on 133-7.

Imran led Pakistan’s bowling effort with three wickets for 11 runs in his four overs. Salman claimed two wickets, while Saim Ayub and Shadab Khan took one each.
