KARACHI: New Zealand on Wednesday ended the third day of the Karachi test at 440/6, two runs ahead of Pakistan’s first innings total of 438 runs.

Opener Tom Latham and former captain Kane Williamson scored centuries to ensure New Zealand scored more runs than the hosts in the first innings.

Kane Williamson finished the day, not out on 105, as he scored his 25th Test century.

Earlier, in the third session, Pakistan’s pacer Muhammad Wasim got his first wicket of the innings when he dismissed wicket-keeper batter Tom Blundell LBW for 47.

After the Lunch break, Pakistan soon got the first breakthrough, as Henry Nicholls edged the ball into the wickets and was bowled by Nauman Ali after scoring 22 runs.

Daryl Mitchell batted aggressively and hit seven fours and one six before getting dismissed by Abrar Ahmed for 42 runs off 47 balls.

Former captain Kane Williamson scored the 34th half-century of his Test career and looking set to score his 25th Test hundred.

New Zealand were 245-2 against Pakistan on Day three of the Karachi Test match on Wednesday, as Tom Latham scored a century, whereas another opener Devon Conway got out in their nervous nineties.

The visitors started the third day with 165 without any losses. Devon Conway was on 92 when Pakistan took a review for an LBW, and Nauman Ali got his wicket.

Tom Latham completed his 13th Test century, third against Pakistan in Tests, and fourth Test century in Asia.

A few overs later, the young spinner Abrar Ahmed got his first scalp and dismissed Latham for 113.

Former captain Kane Williamson was batting on 19 whereas Henry Nicholls had scored 10 when both teams went for the Lunch break.
